posting "punch nazis" on mastodon: gaining the respect of the admin

@nathan Nope, that kind of thing got me a stern talking to on fosstodon. I was not impressed.

@nathan Yeah, apparently using that word was worse than using it in context.

You are kidding, right? Fosstodon are surely okay with that meme.

Though since Ukraine battalions are exposed we will admit many of the (#)punchANazi folk immediately sort of went up in a puff of blue and yellow smoke and vanished.

@dsfgs @nathan It wasn't the meme, it was in relation to Neonazis being involved in that attempt to storm the Reichstag in 2020.

We are not familiar but hope much ridicule and network hindering efforts were used to prevent any effective racism and bigotry.

@dsfgs @nathan Think of it as Germany's own little insurrection/Capitol storming day, except a bit earlier and far less effective.

Good to hear it wasn't anything effective.

Tbh we think that whole (#)Jan6 was not about Nazism but a very planned attack on patriotic, democracy-appreciating people. It was about filling prisons, and giving people others to hate.

In the furore following the attack however, did muster up a story on actual full-frontal nazis.

It also neatly distracted the newsCycle from the ruling to keep Assange in a supermax, despite him winning his case against extradition.

@dsfgs @nathan It's a bit difficult to distinguish sometimes between alt-right, Neonazis and subversion of democracy when all this pursues the same goal. Also our German event was ostensibly against COVID measures taken, but the planning for the Reichstag storming seems to have originates with the alt right, with a surprising number of outright Neonazis participating. Hard to draw lines in this event.

But the wider point is, if you see people marching...

@dsfgs @nathan ... with you waving Nazi symbols around, maybe the reasonable step to take is not to continue marching.

The worrisome thing is that apparently some folk saw those symbols in "their" march as less concerning than paper masks.
