Welcome to centralized Internet 🤷 A number of high profile websites are down right now, apparently due to a failure at Fastly (?)

The is always a big parasite class gathering around any social Alt as the has no creativity itself, instead it feeds off the counter currents to keep the mainstreaming heathy. The problem we face is we don't won’t the to be heathy. Here we have a source of stress. That is coming up in every conversation.

1/ Talking with bitcoiners about ecoloy, I realize most people have very poor understanding of the issues at work (the survival of humanity in the medium term) and are buying into the myths/greenwashing of the industry that wants to keep selling us its crap 👇👇👇

People are up shit creek without a paddle, and they kinda need to look at different places to get out of the mess they are in. On the subject of apathy and Laissez-faire common sense, we do have a problem, and we need to build, structers that take this problem into account. The is a space for creativity here.

If @coinbase goes bankrupt, most bitcoiners lose all their funds.
How is this better than a bank ?
In practice, #Bitcoin is much more centralized than the current banking system. Most wallets & transactions are handled off-line by a cartel of private companies.

I think traditional structers are dead ends for this community, if money was involved then you would get people, but the wrong ones. Without money in the era of the is nothing to gain from cooperation and voluntarism.

in a narrow technical sense, we had _most_ of what it takes to make good software decades ago.

what we lacked then (and have built something almost like a perfect defense against now) are the ways to deal well with power relations, money/resources, freedom, responsibility, and basic human decency - within all of which software has become profoundly enmeshed for all of civilization, in ways that most of programmer culture really doesn't know how to address.

The advantage of being older in tech is that you have seen generations of and a few success, so in a good positions to push down fail and push up the working. Of course there are no guarantees on any of these, but meany things are obviously pointless, and some things are interestingly possible. So overall a worthwhile contribution.

@feditips its not fully accurate that #fedilab is labeled 'Paid'. AFAIK that applies to Google Play installs, but app is free when installing via #fdroid

cc @apps

What I find a pity in general is that #mastodon is so focused on 'productization' of own projects and ecosystem, with less emphasis on this thing called #fediverse we all build

As a result many people don't know Fediverse, but heard of Mastodon or think fedi === masto.

Many of listed clients also support #pleroma for instance.

Would be interesting to know if decentralized social platforms like the #fediverse are closer to #sustainability than centralized platforms with their monstrous datacenters.

The footprint of those is surely going to become an issue going forward, that's explains marquee pre-emptive actions to link them to renewables.

The question is whether intrinsically (and ceteris paribus) #decentralization consumes less (because traffic remains more localized)
